On Wednesday, July 6th, 2022 the Borussia Dortmund football club signed the veteran forward and former star of the Ajax football club, Sébastien Romain Teddy Haller, to a 4 – year contract.
The signing of Haller was an attempt for the Borussia Dortmund football club to replace the superstar striker in Erling Haaland who left town and is now presently under contract with Manchester City.
Borussia Dortmund ultimately ended up paying 31 million euros ($31.5 million), with another 3.5 million euros ($3.6 million) in possible future payments, in order to lock down the 28 – year – old Ivory Coast international star according to representatives with Haller’s ex – club of Ajax.
Sébastien scored 34 – goals for Ajax last season which included the 11 – goals he scored over the course of his 8 – Champions League matches that provided quite a resurgence to his football career after a below average 2 – year run with West Ham in the English Premier League (EPL).
Haller will be assigned with taking over the spot of Haaland’s center – forward striker position now that the Norwegian – born left town on Borussia Dortmund’s football club for the Manchester City football club. Sébastien has now requested to take the # 9 jersey number in which Haaland wore while with Borussia Dortmund for the past 2 – European football seasons.
“The overall package is very promising. Sébastien possesses a strong physical presence and he is physically very resilient,” the new sporting director of Dortmund’s football club, Sebastian Kehl, explained.
“With his experience, he can also offer support and stability to our young attacking players. During the talks with us, he made it clear that he has big ambitions with BVB.”
This recent transfer characterizes a big return to Germany for Haller who has previously played with Eintracht Frankfurt in the German Bundesliga League from back in 2017 through the year of 2019.
